Family fishing at the VFGPA: 18-June-2022

B.C.’s Family Fishing Weekend is an annual celebration of fishing that coincides with the Father’s Day weekend each year. In 2022, the three-day event falls on June 17th to 19th. This is a great chance to get together with family and friends, and try fishing!

Right through the third weekend in June (including the immediately preceding Friday), our provincial government waives the requirement for residents of Canada – individuals who have lived in Canada for the preceding 12 months – to buy or carry a non-tidal (freshwater) basic fishing license.

During B.C.’s Family Fishing Weekend, free fishing events for anglers and families are held throughout the province.  The VFGPA has supported this for decades, and we are back!

If you or any family members, friends, or neighbours wish to try it out, come on down to our stocked pond at Frog Hollow on Saturday, June 18th, from 10 am to 3 pm.  Knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand to teach tricks of the trade to all.

You can escort 2 non VFGPA members for free (make sure that they sign the waiver, and pick up a non-shooting day pass on arrival).

All equipment is provided.  There will be free fishing rods and small tackle boxes for youth to take home.  There will also be prizes.

Finally, it is catch and release for adults, but small children can keep one each for supper, so bring a cooler if your children are feeling lucky.

I hope to see you there.

Doug
