COVID-19 Update #5
Written 14-Mar-2021
Originally distributed via email to our members.
VFGPA members,
On February 10, 2021, the B.C. Provincial Health Officer (PHO) published an Order restricting public gatherings and events. This Order applies to all individuals, places of work and businesses in B.C. and significantly reduces our level of social interactions and travel. On March 11, 2021, the PHO relaxed restrictions on outdoor gatherings; the restrictions on events and travel remain in place.
These have been carefully reviewed by the VFGPA Board and Range Manager, along with other inputs provided to the Executive. After careful review, the following additional VFGPA COVID-19 Risk Management/Mitigation Measures are in effect immediately, replacing the Measures published in December.
Membership adherence to these Measures is essential to keep our facilities available to our membership. Failing to do so risks losing any access to our club for all our over 4,500 members.
We will keep the VFGPA facilities open for individual use by our members.
No person may attend VFGPA facilities if they feel unwell, have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 symptoms in the last 14 days, or have been away from Vancouver Island in the last 14 days. By signing in, members are stating that you are not feeling unwell, have not been exposed to someone with COVID-19 symptoms in the last 14 days, and have not been away from Vancouver Island in the last 14 days. Signs to this effect are posted.
Members shall maintain social distancing protocols. These as well as the new Measures are enforced by staff and RSOs.
Masks are mandatory masks for all indoor activities (e.g., main clubhouse, MP clubhouse, 751 residence, RP clubhouse, RP shooting shed). The exception is the office, if and only if it has only one staff member and the window is closed, and to there is ensure proper ventilation in all indoor settings.
All events as defined in the PHO’s Order, including competitions and matches, are suspended until permitted by the Provincial Health Officer.
Discipline Directors may provide individual and group practice opportunities in compliance with PHO Orders.
Discipline Directors will update their procedures to ensure distancing and use of masks when people might come within 2m of each other. The exception is the active shooter, and adjacent Range Officer (if required, e.g., SIAS), as their safety glasses must not fog up.
The Order does not restrict formal meetings. They can continue but face masks are mandatory. VFGPA Membership meetings remain suspended.
Orientation and Safety Courses may continue. Non-required courses (e.g., Hunting Essentials Course) are suspended under these Measures. The CFSC will continue to be taught at VFGPA at the instructor’s discretion in accordance with direction from the CFO. Rigorous indoor COVID-19 measures are in place.
The Range Manager, David Michaud, has instructed VFGPA staff to:
- Wear a mask in the front office if there is more than one person inside.
- Keep additional hand sanitizer on trap token boxes.
- Sanitize trap keys and other high-contact surfaces.
Also, washrooms and showers are now cleaned twice daily, and access is restricted to one person at a time in washrooms and shower areas.
Please see links below to understand & follow all the other protocols that are required to keep our facilities open and to keep us all ‘safe’.
Thank you all in advance for your cooperation in these matters.
Sincerely,
Douglas Bancroft
President
