Scouts Canada Visit to VFGPA

by Doug Bancroft, Past President

Many VFGPA members have noticed frequent use of our Frog Hollow camping facilities by Scouts Canada Scouts and Venturers.

In addition to camping, the Scouts learn to fish, and develop skills in archery, airsoft, .22 rifle, pistol and shotgun, and more recently black powder “hawk” and knife.  Kudos to all our disciplines who provided access to facilities and equipment.  A special shout out to all the volunteer instructors, and especially Tim Doherty, our Director of Youth Engagement for coordinating these visits, and serving as lead instructor.

Over the years the youth and instructors were always very grateful.  This was especially so when we kept our facilities open, when all the Scout camps and schools were closed to Scouts for so long.

One recent comment below:

“I was amazed to see the connection that each of your instructors had to Scouting in some way or another in their lives. Even the caretaker on Saturday night came by and was excited to just talk to the kids about starting a file and chopping wood.

This was a weekend that our group will never forget, even with the rain!

Please pass along our thanks to everyone.”
