Skeet
The skeet field is located on the shotgun range in front of our log clubhouse and has one high house and one low house.
Skeet may be shot with any gauge shotgun as long as it is capable of firing two shells. The event is in part meant to simulate the action of bird hunting. Squads of five people shoot from eight shooting stations arranged in a semi circle between two skeet houses. One is identified as the high house and the other as the low house. The high house targets start at approximately 10 feet above the ground with the low house targets at approximately a 3 foot height.
The shooting sequence is as follows:
Stations 1 and 2: High house single: Low house single; High house/Low house pair. (4 clays/4 shots each station)
Stations 3, 4 and 5: High house single; Low house single. (2 clays/2 shots each station)
Stations 6 and 7: High house single; Low house single; Low house/High house pair. (4 clays/4 shots each station)
Station 8: High house single; Low house single. (2 clays/2 shots)
The shooter must re-shoot his first missed target, or if no targets are missed, must shoot his 25th shell at the low house station 8. This 25th shot was once referred to as the shooter's option as he was able to take it where he preferred. Now, to speed up rounds in competition, the shooter must shoot the low 8 twice for a perfect score.
